i think you'll have to run it thru a mixer, send its main outs to the monitors, and other outputs to the soundcard. If u don't want to turn on your PC, you'll have to turn on at least the mixer

I dont think there are any problems hooking up the Virus directly to your active monitors......Although I would double check that fact.
If you had a patch bay, you could simply 'patch' your Virus outputs to your monitors when you dont want to turn on the PC
Patchbays are relatively cheap these days....cheaper than a mixer, but it may be handy to have a small mixer to monitor your outboard synths. Check out the Mackie 1202VLZ (http://www.mackie.com/products/1202vlzpro/index.html)....cool little mixer
How exciting....setting up your studio! I remember the day well.....
Have fun!

you can do that, although most people probably would prefer a mixer in between the speaker and the virus. the worse case is that you forget to reduce the volume of the virus and you neighbours stop talking to you :)
