View Full Version : [Virus C] Is this normal?

Hi everone. I'm new to this forum and Access stuff. I bought a Virus C few weeks ago. Seems to work fine. I've upgraded the OS to v.6.6 beta, I've managed to upload sound banks etc.

So what is my problem? Here it is:

What I have recently noticed is that some patches (eg DX piano - Bank C or D as far as I remember) produce an annoying click at the end of the sound. The sound you would hear with an inaccurately trimmed sample. Firstly I thought that it can be sorted with a little tweak of amp "Release". But no it does not seem to be a sound design issue. Funny enough there are loads of sounds that are crystal clear (no clicks).

Is it normal? I guess it's not. None of my other 6 hardware synths does act like that.

But there's more to it. I also have found patches that last forever. What I mean is that when I press a note, say 1/32, the sound lasts, lasts and lasts. Like with maximum amp Release, Sustain settings on. During further invastigations I have found that Release works more like trim/cut
to these sounds. No gradual fades or anything like that. On top of that I can't get amp Attack working. The display shows changing values but I can't hear any effect. Filter Attack works perfect though.

Is it normal? I guess it's not.

So has anyone experienced something like that? Any suggestions?

What I'm going to do today is:
1. Initialize the unit (Lfo shape button + power on)
2. Load OS 6.5
3. Check MIDI connections - connect keyboard directly to the synth with MIDI IN only

* I'm on Q6600, Win32XP, Cubase 5, ESI1010 audio/midi interface, Emagic MT4 midi interface.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the envelope generator isn't working properly. Not something you can fix yourself.

Cheers PaPi. Well it sounds reasonable in terms of the actual failure. However, I'm wondering how could have possible happened? Did you mean a hardware failure or software one?

From my point of view it looks like something software related.

I've read quite a lot of posts re clicks and crackles issues. So it seems to be a common thing with Viruses. That envelope thingy doesn't.

Is there any chance that these parameters have been "locked for editing" within the some internal edit/system menu?

The way you describe the problem, it appears to be related to the envelope generator, as the sound either cuts off abruptly or keeps on going forever, as if for some reason the synth is no longer able to follow release instructions. It could be software or hardware.

Just a guess, of course.

Hi Mass. :)

Definately something's askew.

The final OS for the Virus C was version 6.5. Where did you get the version 6.6 beta from?

Definately try updating the OS back to the official version 6.5 again, as you were going to, and see what that does. Fingers crossed.

I had this problem when I had the C and luckily I owned two so could rule out that one was faulty. I tracked it down to the EQ section of all places. Put the EQ settings to no gain and see if that solves it.
