There's a program (for PC) called Nord Generator:
http://nm-archives.electro-music.com...erator_Editor/.
There should be a load of compatible patches available here:
http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/.

I've used Nord Generator mainly to back up patches. I downloaded them from our singers Nord Lead 2, and dumped them back into my Nord Rack 2. Only downside is that there's only 40 user slots in the NL2/NR2, unless you have a PCMCIA SRAM card. Also, I think you can only upload one patch at a time - you can dump the full 40 patches to your PC in one go.

Hope that's useful to you, and hope you enjoy the Nord. I have a Virus Classic and the Nord Rack 2, and I love them both. I find there's more detail in the Virus sounds, but the straighter sounds of the Nord really shine through at times. But I'm no expert!

Cheers,

Maurice

Hey Maurice! Thank you very much for that information. I'll grab those tools and see what happens. You are very right that the sound of a Virus vs. the Nord is very distinct and detailed. I'm looking forward to getting a grasp on the utility of the NL2 this summer. I love my Virus KC dearly and the Virus sound, but think I can make the two VAs play happily together in the mix, at least I'll waste countless hours of my life trying.

;)

Cheers Bro!

Nord lead 2 is a great sounding va-synth. I've been thinking of getting the 2x rack for some time. What I like about the NL2 is that it is very simple and the sound is good. The user interface is imo the best part of it. The knobs feel very solid and everything is laid out well, totally contrary to what many soft synths provide.

Congrats for the new synth! :)

since we're on the topic of the nord.......2x or 3???

AlexHall74 04.04.2008 04:31 PM

Ooof! I believe that an enhanced Nord 3 (whether its called the Nord 3x or the Nord 4, who knows) will be released some time after the 2X. I read this in a Sound on Sound artcle.

The guy who posted a nice Nord Lead 2 demo on YouTube responded to a similar question and I think he stated he preferred the 2 over the 2x as it sounded more "dirty" and analogueish. The 2X is purported to have a cleaner sound. I don't know if that is Clavia's intent on the successor to the NL3.

I'd buy the NL3, it's the best bang for your buck for sure. Just my .02.

Congrats Alex! I still love my NL2 to bits. Some gear just has 'life' if you know what I mean. Mine is beat up, been with me though a few countries, had a rough life, but it still screams it's little head off when pushed just right!

Would never sell mine!!

STEVE! It's very nice to hear from you. Thanks for identifying the NL2 as a keeper. If you've had it through all that and still lvoe the hell out of it, then it must be a good synth. How are Kai and Misato? Have you created any new offspring???

:)

All is good here, check out my PISS UP THREAD in Off Topic if you wish to see my weekend DAW desk-modification project...

Nice! Welcome to the double jeopardy fatherhoohd club!

Now it's time to get a vasectomy, Steve. It won't hurt that much, and you will be financially solvent in your old age if you stop reproducing NOW.

;)
