Virus C OS 6.5 upgrade using Cubase SX
Hi, Im having trouble upgrading the OS, here is what am I doing..
I disabled the MIDI clock on the Virus
I imported the MIDI file into SX, reduced the BPM to 60 and played it yet the Virus does not count any blocks.
I have a direct midi connection to my SB sound card and in SX selected all midi inputs for IN and the soundcard midi port for OUT.
Do you know what I am doing wrong please?
Thank you,
Caley

Make sure you have allowed SX to send SYS-EX info. The setting should be somewhere in your midi setup options in SX.

Under Mac OS, you go to the 'preferences' menu, and it will be there under the MIDI sub-menu, as "Filter"....just un-check the sysex box.
With Windoze...I dunno, but it must be the same thing really
Good luck!!!

Ok tried the enabing/disabling Sys-Ex in SX, still nothing. My virus is not responding or anything to the the midi file from SX - just sits there.
Do I need to tell the Virus to recieve the file or anything - the manual doesn't say anything tho about this on p159??
I must be doing something fundamentally wrong?

What about the MIDI device manager in SX? Try setting up the Virus as a MIDI device and choose the correct MIDI port etc.....then when you select the MIDI out from the track in SX, it should have the Virus there.....
I dont know if this even makes a difference, but it might?
Apart from that, how about an email to Access technical support...they are a good bunch there and may be able to help pinpoint something that we have missed.
From recollection, the 1024 update was relatively pain free, so the only thing I can really think can be the problem is the Soundblaster....
Good luck!!!

Yeh, I think the SB Audigy 2 Plat EX 2 might be the problem - will be gutted if it is - cost nearly ?200
Isolated the problem - when I do a loopback test only two bytes are returned instead of three

That SB-card sucks, even if you only use it to control midi-data.
I used to use my SB-card as a midi-interface, but had some odd latency in the midi-signals and so on.
So i borrowed my friends Midiman 2*2 - even if i hate midiman-stuff this works alright, but it still goes postal sometimes and refuses to stop sending midi-data.
Or is it my brothers PC acting up? - i mean, his computer is used for everything. esp. games and his paint-programs.
Well, i'll get a own pc soon i guess.. or an hardware sequencer

Mmmm.....
Im not familiar with the loopback test, but does this mean it is definately the SB? There might be something you can do to work around the problem, so maybe a detailed email to Access tech support???? They might have a solution other than get a new card...
It might be worth investing in a small USB/MIDI interface...and they are not too expensive these days. Obviously it is better to have a good one, but if you cant afford it, just go for something like what 303 suggested?
Anyways, hope it is all sorted out soon!
