i usually record the dry signal then add VST delay or reverb. I use the onboard rev/del only to have an overview of the final sound.
But i admit sometimes it is hard to make the same ping pong delay effect that is on the virus, in that case I change the multi's delay/rev to record a certain sound then switch back to the previous one.
