The other thing is, I sometimes wonder whether the converters on the Snow may even be slightly better than my Polar (TI1). I think this because I had a loan Snow before my Polar arrived, I don't know whether I was imaging things but at one point when auditioning the Snow I thought it was going to blow my speaker cones out the sound was soo punchy.
the converters are not better.

Really? I've come across more than one comment on this forum and elsewhere that seems to suggest that the snow's outputs are higher quality than the bigger TIs (mk1 at least). So there's absolutely no change in D/A spec from TI to Snow or TI2?

I dunno the story but my Desktop sounds better thru the SPIDF than the 1/4 when running it into my Pioneer 800 mixer....I dont have another mixer to try plugging both into and trying it....maybe an analogue mixer would make a differece!

I am using it as my only soundcard, and it has worked perfectly so far. I am also using the MIDI interface to connect in my Roland RD700sx. I am running OS 2.7.5, though.
