Default Shape knob problem

Hi all.

Yesterday I noticed the shape knob in my virus jumps a little: it works perfectly, but when I reach 60 (coming from 127), it jumps to 55, and the same happens once I reach 50 (it goes to 45). I can get the inbetween values if I try to several times.

Its quite noticeable if you do a sweep with that knob, and it worries me as I'm thinking in selling my VC to get a VTi. I dont want to sell it if it isnt 100% working.

?is there any solution? ?should I take it to repair? ?will this cost too much? My VC has no guarantee left.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a minor defect in the pot. If the warenty if out (and if you dare) you should be able to change it yourself. Only do this if you know how to solder and know a minimum of eletronics. Else take it to repairs...

thanks for the advice Onkel, but I think I'll pass on doing it myself. I would end up writing another post here on 'how to revive a burnt virusC'

Its certainly a minor problem, but I'll take it to repair.

?does anybody have a clue on how much could it cost?

Nordlead.......

Re-install the OS. That should fix it......

If it doesnt.......then sell your Virus and then goto confession the following Sunday. Dont feel bad about it. A slightly jumpy knob is hardly anything to feel guilty over. The issue doesnt detract too much from the synth as a whole.....

This is just my opinion.....

Thanks for the tip DS. I'm going to give it a try. Will my sounds get deleted if I do an OS update?

BTW, selling synths with jumpy knobs makes baby jesus cry.

It won't delete your sounds if you just update the OS. Don't do the sound update patch too by accident or anything.

Jumpy knobs would piss me off if I had the same problem. Sorry to hear about it mate.

At least it isn't the Cutoff.

heheh, i was gonna say satan kills a kitten every time access lets out a defective virus.

good luck getting the jumpy knobs fixed. also have you tried fiddling with the knob mode in the virus? since theres various different settings which change the behaviour of the rotaries when they are turned. or is it just a faulty pot?
