Default God I love analogue!!!!

I really do......

The latest bunch of recordings I have done have been tracked through an old analogue console, recorded into the computer via Cubase SX, compression & subtractive EQ applied, then back into the desk for EQ and Reverb, and it is sounding so amazing!!!!

I will post one of the tracks when I get around to it, so you can see

And if you havent been convinced yet, you really need to experience it. Next time you have a finished track, send it to an old analogue mastering house and get them to run it through a bunch of old vintage gear......

God I love analogue..........

If i really got to choose i'd be sitting in an all analogue studio ->

Modular-wall, cv/gate-sequencers.. my all time favourite synths are analogue mono-synths acctually.

Well, I have been on board for some time, but it was only today that a flash of analogue inspiration and beauty presented itself, that I decided to "oficially" come out of the analogue closet......

Hmmm......I think it is a case of 'best of both worlds'....digital is an amazing technology, but there are just some things it doesnt do (yet!) so I think some combination of the two would be my ideal...

The only digital-synth/ROMpler/Sampler i want is an Fantom X6 - the rest would be analogue. Then i would have the best of two worlds

It all comes down to the cash factor doesn't it.

A combination would be nice indeed. Bellow is my wish list - which probably won't happen in the near future.

Analogue
Desk with sweet EQs.
Compressors.
Pre-amps.
Bass synths.

Digital
Sequencer.
Distortions, delays and most other FX too.
Multi track recorder.
Synth sounds that need heavy modulations and leads.
Sampler.

Default I love analog too

I'll just add my 2cents here.
I recently ponderd better sound in the last year, so I did some tests to see what kind of upgrade I would actually see results from.
I tested a few things on a production and here's what I found.
Upsampling a 44.1 mix to 88 or 96 to master it and then resample to 44.1 gave negligable benifits.
Recording my virus parts and rendering vsti synths at 96 or 88 and adding them to upsampled wavs to make a new mixdown did some improvement, mainly in the vsti synths.
Mixing all virus parts (3 stereo busses) in real time with 4 stereo busses of my production in the analog rhelm. MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE, like a cardboard wrapping was torn away to reveal the silky inner of space and depth.
At the time I had no analog mixer and made a passive summing buss network fed into a stereo preamp. I recently improved the setup using a Manley solid state pre, that sounds crystal clear.
The ironic thing is I made such a difference mixing out side the box and I'm still producing at 44.1.

Wow....sounds cool! It is quite amazing what can be achieved without having to spend thousands on some fancy bit of kit. I think all of us can learn something here....

Are we using what we have to it's full potential?

Edit: Here is a link to one of the songs I recorded so you can see what I mean

this is a link

I seem to spend my whole life making work arounds to avoid spending more studio cash. But there comes a time when more cash is needed to be spent no matter what you do.

If it were upto me (and money was no option) I would have a totally analog setup. Right from recording -> effects -> synths.

When you run a Virus through analog effects* and record it using tape machines...the sound is VERY PLEASING. I had the opportunity to record some bass and pad patches doing this and it totally transformed the virus into something very special. It became genuinely hard to distinguish between analog poly and VA (Huh...I thought I'd never say that!)

*Roland space echo and chorus (cant remember the exact model).

The SynthWizard has some advice - Back in the 1980's music was better, TV was better, films were better. Not to mention fashion.... Let me help you relive the past with some classic 80's sounds from my vintage synth collection....
