Hey I'd like to know that also, I'm running my Fireface 800 on the 400 firewire at the moment. I have an 800 port on the PC mobo but no 800 cable.

i always thought its the same firewire cable (400 and 800) but if you say its not then whats the deal?
if your DAW is compateble just get an 800 cable.

It's a very different cable, I've looked everywhere in my area but have only found a 0.5meter 800 cable when I want a 3 or 5 meter one. I guess I will get on online somewhere to test the latency theory.

I found this on audiomidi.com
http://www.audiomidi.com/aboutus/rev..._rme_ff800.cfm

One fact to keep in mind, using the ?faster? FireWire 800 will not give you lower latency than the original FireWire 400 spec. Rather, the increase in bandwidth will allow for higher track counts over FireWire 400. Not to fret, if your computer only has FireWire 400 you will still get all the low latency capabilities of the RME FireFace 800

Why?????
People on the sound on sound Forum think its (E-MU) a good card
Or you just pulling me pisser

I know RME are the one of the best if not the best.
So why did you get rid of it ??
EMU is basically a creative audigy - or at least their PCI cards are.

Different DSP code, different output and preamp circuits as well.

EMU got themselves a really bad rep when they first released the PCI cards. I wouldnt stick them in the same category as RME and TC.

As for the crap driver rep - well I understand they got alot of help from creative after and their drivers are stable now, but not exactly the ultra low latency (and apparenty reliable) marvels that the RME drivers are.

If I was buying an audio interface at this time - I think I would go with RME, though I have to confess to rather likeling the features of the MOTU interfaces - especially as the price seems to have dropped on them. The down side with MOTU is the got a poor rep with early driver on the PC - I havnt researched since to find out if that is still a worry + what I have works nicely, but I wish the drivers would get updated and get better performance (Grrrrr @ Yamaha for poor support).

why not go with the new Fireface 400? its almost half the price of the fireface 800 and the same quality of preamps and convertors.

i wish i had some spair money for that one 8O
