Well....for one reason, VSTi's chew up your valuable processor resources, hardware does not. Another reason? I like something I can put my hands on and tweak....a mouse just wont do Im afraid.

And.....I just think compared to hardware, softsynths just sound shit

Ah Tommer.....suggesting softsynths.....sacrilige hehe!

Im 100% hardware......

Give me analog effects and tape machines over virtual stuff anyday!

*I was listening to an old 60's jazz recording and to my ears it sounded *nicer* than any Pro-Tools shite. But thats just me....im a stickler for organic recordings.

Ahhh, you just jogged my memory! I have to get some samples of the Nord ready to show someone this very thing.

Software isn't quite there yet Tommer. It's getting there though.

HC.....ive just noticed that on the N2x in the filter section it allows you to use LP24 and Notch at the same time. Was this a function on the original N2?

Makes for some interesting sounds especially when coupled with the filter distortion and high resonance.

Yep, that was on the original NL2. The only differences with them are the output quality and also the fact you don't need a PCMCIA card with the 2x.

So have you bought it already? Made any sounds yet?

Here is an interesting comparison between the nord 2 and 3. The 2 has more bottom end to my years.

Hi DIGITAL SCREAMS

I actually had the same question up here for a month ago or so, so check out those rreplies too (if you havn?t already)

I havn?t figured out what to buy yet though I have played around with both of them.

Alot of people are using the NL2, so some might say that you might get the same sound like they have? (dunno about that)

but the Ion is much fatter I guess, so if you go for more overview and more authentic VA that would be the choice (hate that 8 voice polyphony though! )

I found the knobs on the NL2 a little bad (Access could shurely learn them something there!) they are small and heavy to move (at least on the model I tried)......

I actually started to look at the G2 engine too (those 3 synth are all in the same price level here), so that could be a choice too, especially for me....

all those nice generators and FX and the idea of building a unique synth for each patch is nice I guess......

Anyone have any comments about the G2 (keyboard editions) or the engine?

The knobs on mine do the same thing until it warms up. But once it warms up, they are really solid and move freely. The knobs and pots have lasted me years on the NL2, but the pots on some of my other (unnamed gear) have already come a little loose.

Really? I think the NL2 knobs are superb quality. Knobs with much resistance is a good thing IMO.
