Default MPU-401 midi help

Hi, I have just had a sweex 4.1 budget soundcard installed with an MPU-401 game / midi gate onboard (I only got it for the midi support), and I am trying to use it as a setup between my computer and my virus using cakewalk sonar 3. But it does not appear to be working / no communication. Under sounds / devices MPU-401 is enabled as the current midi playback device, and I even enabled it in the bios, but still nothing, Any suggestions?,

ps: my motherboard does not have a midi / game port onboard, it is a gigabyte triton motherboard.

Really don't want to be rude mate, but have you got a virus synth and you don't know the first thing about midi?

I'll help you set it up and all, but that's ace!

More details. What synth is it? What do you want to do musically?

Hi

yes I know alot about midi and synths, I have a virus classic. I spoke to the company of the soundcard and they said it is faulty. Basically, you should just be able to plug in and play using midi, so its obviously not working.

Ps: if you can offer any additional help, then thats cool!

cheers very much

Gary

You just need to make sure you have the proper midi in source and out selected in Cakewalk. Try also getting the latest drivers for your soundcard off interwebs.

Good luck
