What VSTi's do you guys like the most and why?
I'm a fan of a few:
Albino 3: GREAT GREAT sounding basses. The filters, saturation, and subosc's out-muscle my TI when it comes to low-end
Rapture: the distortion can sound almost Virus-like - it's also got a great interface for doing intricate patterns
Korg Legacy Collection: sounds just like the original... nuff said.
I've got a bunch of others I love, but I'd prefer to hear what you guys think about the VSTi's that are coming out on the market, especially Arturia's Prophet V emulation... I havent had the time to try one of those out, but I love their other products, especially the Minimoog V.
Cheers!

I cannot live without my Spectrasonics VSTis. I've bought all 4 and RMX is simply awesome.
Something about that UVI engine just seems to add life to the sounds - also the reason why I bought Mach Five as my main sampler, again it uses the UVI engine. Great piece of kit.

I dont use any VSTi's... I would love to get some but I cant justify spending a few hundred dollars on a piece of software, when I can spend a few hundred on some quality hardware:

Some VSTi?s sound great but they don?t have knobs, buttons and blinky lights and i hate using a mouse for programming synths. Besides that i feel that i get something when i buy hardware. I fell they actually did something to deserve my money instead of just printing another CD/DVD...

Everything from Arturia sounds amazing, GMedia isn't bad at all, and OhmForce is top quality.

Btw, software's GUI can seriously affect user's perception of sound, in a visual manner, on psychological levels.
Good example is the BlueTube VST software pack, it looks so good but sounds so bad, and the good look sells.

Ive not seen that so cant comment. I do find that most of the UI on alot of VST/VSTi is adorned with so much ditracting crap that its a complete turn off when trying to get stuff done.
Actually its one of the thing I really like about Reason - all the UIs in that are very functional and uncluttered. There is a good nod towards styling, but in a functional way - I just hate the really busy garish UIs in alot of plugins (and DAWs). Maybe thats why I quite like the UAD vintage sim plugins - all the UIs in those are based upon the uncluttered simplicty of the original hardware. Even the precison series seems ok to use for some reason, though it is quite cluttered, it doesnt seem so distracting as many, so I quite like working with it.
