Question multitimbrality with Virus A and Cubase SX3

Hi there i am terrible new on the hardware synths matter, so take it a bit easy on me

I have one problem though when i want to set up multitimbrality in cubase for the access virus it doesn't seem to work, i must be doing something wrong (a setting on the virus maybe ?)

What do i do ?

I create 3 midi tracks which are routed to the virus A midi output, each midi track i send to a different channel (so midi channel 1, 2 and 3). On each channel i choose a differend patch out of the virus's soundbanks.
Only the first channel plays a sound the two others are dead, i see midi data is being received by the virus but i don't hear a thing (when the first midi track is muted).

What is it that i forget or don't know here ?

Any help is appreciated very much!

Hi Franklin,

Welcome to Infekted.org!

Have you checked the outputs of the other 2 patches?
Is your Virus in Multi-mode?

Thank you Drammy ..

I didn't do anything with the access virus's settings , i tried the single and multi mode and both together with the same result.

I didn't check the output on the patches (i guess that is a virus setting ?)but when i play notes on my masterkeyboard they give sound in the fisrt midi channel, it seems that only channel one is giving sound the other two never give sound although the virus get's midi data (notes) received ..

Maybe this is just me being dumb ofc (i guess it is a setting on the virus , has to be )

A bit of a wild guess maybe, but when you play the Virus you say you see MIDI data getting to Cubase. Maybe you need to enable the Monitor track button ...?

I think Franklin means he sees the MIDI data being received on the Virus (he's using a separate controller keyboard)...

First off all thanx for the feedback/pointers !!!!

I found the problem, i used Access sounddiver to upload some patches to the virus , and i think it messed up the A big time. Seems that i did everything like it should be i resetted the virus to default factory settings and all works fine now \o/ ..

I think i have to post about how to upload banks/patches to the virus with Midi files and or sounddiver now ( it was a bit strange that the names of the patches in the sounbanks were all blank after uploading )

Thanx again !!

Right,

In Cubase you should have 3 MIDI channels each on (lets say) MIDI Channels 1, 2 & 3. Create 3 MIDI parts in Cubase each with their own arrangements (just single notes on each, lets not create polyphony problems) and set them playing.

Ensure each MIDI channel is set to play out the same Soundcard output port.

On the Virus check you are in Multi-mode (I have only owned the C and the TI so I cannot be too sure about the Virus set-up, just guessing from later models - I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong).

Then check each part, 1 through to 3, and check the sound is set to output to the main output L&R.

Check each Virus part (on the Virus) are set to a decent volume and not 0.

Then check Part 1 is set to MIDI Channel 1, part 2 to MIDI 2 and part 3 to MIDI 3.

I guess this is what you've already done - but do hear 1 or more sounds? Depending on your soundcard you may be able to set Parts 2 and 3 to output on separate channels so you have separate inputs into Cubase.

Let us know how you get on with this and hopefully someone thats used an A can fill in the blanks.
