Default Synching Up

OK, I need some help synching up to an external source, in this case Traktor, running from an external PC.

My kit

PC SETUP
Virus Classic
Midi In, Out, Through
Midi Clock Slave Only

Yamaha RM1X
Mini In, Out
Midi Clock Slave Only
MTC Slave Only

PC
Cubase SX3
Midi In (x2) , Out (x2)
Midi Clock Master Only (no slave!)
MTC Master/Slave

And externally

LAPTOP SETUP
Traktor
Midi Out
Midi Clock Master Only

The RM1X and Virus are hapily synched to Cubase. But I really want Cubase to synch to Traktor.

So with all the about, how the heck do I get my PC setup to synch to Tracktor? As far as i can tell I can't. The weakest link here I think is that Cubase won't synch to midi clock.

I had thought of ditching Cubase, and just synching the Virus to Traktor, and pluging the RM1x into the thru port. but then, there's nowhere to plug my keyboard into the Virus

Can anyone see a way around the problem using the above kit?

Would something like Ambleton Live allow me to slave to Midi Clock?

Thanks,

Griff

how about to switch the midi clock to slave on the notebook?

not sure if Traktor supports sync to external clock ...
but in any case: with 2 master clocks you won't get the job done.

so you have to decide who syncs to whom.

Hi Psy, thanks for the reply.

Traktor doesn't support synch to external, it's a MIDI clock master only. That's the only option. Which if you think about it, makes sense! The DJ is deciding the tempo, so Traktor needs to be the clock master.

I need the Virus/RM1X to both synch to clock, but I'm not sure how I can do that and still have somewhere to plug my keyboard in. If I could use Cubase (and hence my Midi 2x2) then it would be problem solved, but Cubase no longer supports sync to midi clock

Is there a hardware option which will merge to midi ins? I wouldn't mind loosing the laptop all together ! It's only there at the moment to synch the virus and RM1x while allowing MIDI in from the keyboard

Cheers !

That's what I'm hoping ! I assume it will also send the clock back out again for the Virus and RM1X ?

I supposed I'd better get saving!

Actually, now I'm thinking of simply rolling back to VST/32 as I'm 99% sure that used to so sync to midi clock

I've just done a new blog post showing the live setup if anyone is interested
