The way I'm using the virus is through the virus control. One track holding the virus, many MIDI tracks containing the "external instrument" which both send and receive audio from the virus. This way allows me not to have one track for MIDI and a separate one for audio, per instrument.
Okay so this works just fine, but when I try to freeze one of the tracks, Virus control starts moaning that I have to use real-time freezing which is just great, other than the fact that I cannot find anywhere such an option. I always thought ableton's "external instrument" always forced realtime rendering.
Freezing works just fine on an old analog synth (which obviously lacks TI) so I don't see how the virus should be any different?
Am I doing something wrong, or freezing tracks is impossible?
PS: yes I know I can manually record onto a secondary audio track but this is suboptimal as it requires, again, a number of tracks equal to 2 x number of instruments
