Default [unsolved] Problems upgrading Indigo with OS 4.02

Hi all,

I've looked through the forum but not found anything to explain the problems I'm having upgrading the OS on my brand-new-to-me Access Virus Indigo 1.

First of all, the splash screen comes up saying OS4 4.02 Access Indigo -
there's no mention of a T or S version.

Second, if I try to upload any firmware version (OS-T version), from 4.07 up to the latest 4.90, the display changes to show an S/E symbol (to the left of the patch number), but after the upload is complete the symbol disappears and nothing else happens.

Thirdly, if I try as some have suggested to enable Receive mode by holding down Store on startup, then the display goes blank and only the two LFO leds are lit. Is that normal??

I've also tried to upload OS-S versions, which also causes the Virus to go blank and require a power cycle.

I've tried changing LoPage, HiPage, Device ID and Midi Channel as suggested in various threads, but to no avail.

I'm able to send and receive preset banks, so I'm pretty sure the MIDI setup is fine - I'm using a MOTU Micro-Lite and Sysex Librarian on a Mac OS X.

Any help/suggestions welcome!

As an aside, I've seen some reports that early Indigos will only work with firmware versions up to 4.51 - is that correct? Is it safe to try a later version (if I can get the install procedure to work!) and revert if there are problems?

many thanks in advance,

/m
