Default INDIGO / Virus C: Modwheel, Aftertouch MOD INTENSITY problem

ok, i've read the manual but still can't figure out how to configure the Modwheel and Aftertouch such that they increase/introduce the LFO amount/intensity.

just trying to get some simple vibrato from these 2 sources.

i know how to get vibrato from the LFO but i want to introduce it with the 2 aforementioned sources such that it isn't there until i either 1) press harder on the key (Aftertouch) or 2) activate the Modwheel

it may be that i'm still not grasping the interface.
here's my dance.......

- go to LFO 3, adjust rate
- go to MOD, then go to ASSIGN 3
-press the left "parameter" button to choose my desired Source........"Modwheel" (or "ChanPres" for aftertouch)
-press the right "parameter" button to choose my desired Destination......."Lfo3OscAmt"
- get frustrated because there's no vibrato from activation of source
