Default DSOUND.dll problems!! - Need help guys.

Bugger. All of a sudden everytime I try to open itunes I keep getting the following message : -

"The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\DSOUND.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I have to use taskmanager to end the itunes task to get the window to shut. Very dodgy.

In fact I just tried to open Windows Media Player - it does open but wont play any audio files. Winamp didn't want to at first but then I changed the output from the DirectSound Output to WaveOut output and it seem to play files ok.

Thinking along the lines of Direct X issues - I downloaded the latest version (Direct X 9 c I believe) and this still hasn't cured it. The one thing that I noticed when trying to source the problem via the Direct X troubleshooting programme is that the DSOUND.dll in question did not have any driver version number, date or anything next to it. All of the other dll's did have.

Urgent help needed folks...

I think dsound.dll is a DirectX component. Try reinstalling DirectX.

Cheers Doc. I owe you a large ice cold beer pal. I was just about to do the dreaded Windows re-install.... Problem sorted.

Funnily enough I think it may of been the Mackie Traktion 2 demo that I downloaded to mess about with. It wouldn't even fire up once installed - straight in the bin me thinks...

German beer can be quite good. Bitburger is very nice. I found a good beer the other day in t'local called Sleemans - a Canadian made dark honey beer - very very nice... (just off to pub!)
